Microsoft has released KB4090007 in order to mitigate Spectre & Meltdown vulnerabilities

As Microsoft had promised recently, today they are rolling out a new security update to mitigate vulnerability in Intel Sky-Lake chip set on Windows 10, . Windows 10 KB4090007 can be downloaded from Microsoft’s Update Catalog and it will not get installed automatically.

Today Microsoft has released the security update KB4090007 for Windows 10 devices running the Fall Creators Update (version 1709), and this update is only applicable to those devices with Intel Skylake. Windows 10 KB4090007 is available as offline installer and it will mitigate the vulnerabilities. This update is based on the patch which has released by Intel last month or in other words the core data of this update from Intel.

As sources says, Microsoft has been working on developing these updates and done with the testing on Windows 10 devices, and finally they have released it for the end-users. Microsoft will closely work with Intel and together, they will release these patches for more devices with different chip sets.

As of now, this patch is available for those who are using devices with Sky-Lake processors and this patch is not available OTA. We can download this patch from Microsoft Update Catalog.

Intel has found out this vulnerability in the beginning of this year and they have released patches for systems as soon as they could. However, those patches reportedly caused numerous issues in different operating systems since these are not operating system updates but firmware (Hardware Level).

We hope that this security patch which has been released by Microsoft today will not cause any such issues since they have done lot of testing before releasing it to out of Microsoft.
